Moreton Bay Peninsular is jumping with fantastic hidden fishing spots. While there are plenty of great spots available if you have a boat there are also some great hidden treasures for jetty and beach fisherman as well. While you do need to be careful of the green zones (ie marine protected zones) around Moreton Bay there are still some really great spots to be fished.
Endeavour Park in Newport is quiet popular for families. You see a lot of Whiting, Bream, and if you have a crab pot definitely throw it out as there’s plenty of crabs about . There is something to keep everyone occupied. Endeavour Park is a big park to keep the kids occupied as well as BBQ’s and picnic tables to prepare your catch for lunch. The water is so clean you can usually spot some of our local dolphins having a playing in the canals. Just a bit further North, you’ll find Thurecht Parade at Scarborough Marina. This is the perfect spot for recreational anglers to have a fish, bring along a camp chair and your esky and try your hand at catching some Flathead or Bream. You’ll definitely find some mud crabs or sand crabs hiding in the Reef Point Esplanade area so drop in a pot or two here as well.
Redcliffe Jetty
Captain Cook Park at Redcliffe, has to be on your must fish list at sunset and sunrise! About 20m off the shoreline you’ll find a pocket where the Snapper are just waiting to get caught and if you’re lucky Tuna have been caught there as well. Redcliffe Jetty is a hugely popular spot for everyone to throw in a line or cast a net bring a chair and some sunscreen. There’s not much cover on the Redcliffe Jetty but it is a good fishing spot, with cleaning benches set up along the jetty, conveniently placed for you to clean your catch.
The Woody Point Jetty is another very popular spot with our local fishermen. Not only do you get perfect sunsets on the jetty, it’s also the best spot to see our sea life; Turtles, Dugongs, Dolphins all frequently pop by for a visit. The fishing is fantastic; Bream, Flounder, Whiting, Flathead, are common. You can throw out a cast net for some live bait or try your hand at catching your own prawns.
