Suttons Beach, Margate, Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia would have to be one of the safest beaches for swimming and is manned by our local Surf Life Savers. At the other end of Suttons Beach Lagoon, there is a full size basketball court so everyone can have a game or just practice your shots.
If the BBQ’s are not your thing just head up to street level and you will find a fish and chip shop and ice cream parlor ready to take your orders. Alternatively, you could head for a short stroll along Redcliffe’s waterfront and you will find restaurants and cafes with all sorts of amazing dining options.

The Redcliffe Peninsula is full of fantastic family friendly parks for everyone to enjoy, but none more so than The Redcliffe Botanical Garden. These gardens are full of wonderful hidden spots with something for everyone. The little ones are going to love the ponds filled with turtles, frogs, ducks and view the multitude of black flying fox colonies that call The Redcliffe Botanical Gardens home plus they have open green spaces for running off their excess energy. The Gardens are also the perfect spot to lay back on a picnic rug and have a read of a good book, (but away from the bat colony, which can also be a bit smelly).
Redcliffe’s Botanical Gardens also have its own nursery and vege garden. The volunteers in here are very knowledgeable and love to have a chat. If they have time they can even take you for a bit of a stroll around The Botanical Gardens. Redcliffe’s Lapidary (Gem) Club also call The Botanical Gardens home, The members are all locals and happy to share their passion for gems and answer any questions you have, they love to show off all there finds just head in for a look and a chat.

The Redcliffe Show brings a touch of country to the Redcliffe Peninsula with everything from extremely talented crafters displaying their embroidery and sewing skills; baking competitions; and wood chopping, adding in an element of danger with their chainsaws, just to name a few. The horticulture section is filled with stunning plants and gorgeous flowers. The Redcliffe Show has some top notch pets, cattle, poultry, and horses. These animals are brought to The Redcliffe Show every year for judging. The horses will put on an amazing display from farm skills to show jumping. Every year the adorable little piglets come to the Redcliffe Show for piggy racing. Each afternoon, you can take a bet on which little piggy will get home first. If you’re after more action, there is a motorbike stunt show which is a show stopper, finished with freestyle BMX stunts and tricks. The Redcliffe Show also features, V8 utes and drift cars, tug of wars, mini bikes and a show from Jet Pack Man.

Moreton Bay Peninsular is jumping with fantastic hidden fishing spots. While there are plenty of great spots available if you have a boat there are also some great hidden treasures for jetty and beach fisherman as well. While you do need to be careful of the green zones (ie marine protected zones) around Moreton Bay there are still some really great spots to be fished.
Endeavour Park in Newport is quiet popular for families. You see a lot of Whiting, Bream, and if you have a crab pot definitely throw it out as there’s plenty of crabs about . There is something to keep everyone occupied. Endeavour Park is a big park to keep the kids occupied as well as BBQ’s and picnic tables to prepare your catch for lunch. The water is so clean you can usually spot some of our local dolphins having a playing in the canals. Just a bit further North, you’ll find Thurecht Parade at Scarborough Marina. This is the perfect spot for recreational anglers to have a fish, bring along a camp chair and your esky and try your hand at catching some Flathead or Bream. You’ll definitely find some mud crabs or sand crabs hiding in the Reef Point Esplanade area so drop in a pot or two here as well.
Captain Cook Park at Redcliffe, has to be on your must fish list at sunset and sunrise! About 20m off the shoreline you’ll find a pocket where the Snapper are just waiting to get caught and if you’re lucky Tuna have been caught there as well. Redcliffe Jetty is a hugely popular spot for everyone to throw in a line or cast a net bring a chair and some sunscreen. There’s not much cover on the Redcliffe Jetty but it is a good fishing spot, with cleaning benches set up along the jetty, conveniently placed for you to clean your catch.
The Woody Point Jetty is another very popular spot with our local fishermen. Not only do you get perfect sunsets on the jetty, it’s also the best spot to see our sea life; Turtles, Dugongs, Dolphins all frequently pop by for a visit. The fishing is fantastic; Bream, Flounder, Whiting, Flathead, are common. You can throw out a cast net for some live bait or try your hand at catching your own prawns.
